My Artist STatement

My  first experience making art at the age of 5 was at the Museum of Modern  Art in New York City. I don't remember making it, but it was in my  bedroom for many years so I do

remember that it was a big lump of clay with all sorts of things like feathers, sticks, etc. sticking out of it.

I   never  made visual art again until I started quilting in the mid 1990's and realized I did not enjoy using patterns. I moved into art quilts and made those for about 5 years. After that I continued to use fabric but made art with sheer fabrics, hand-stitched together, stitched to a background fabric which was stretched and framed. In 2014 I stopped making art.

I was tired of sewing and had no inspiration to move into a new medium. In 2019 I was thinking about encaustic, but really didn't want to use hot wax so I searched for information about cold wax. I took a class at OLLI at Duke on cold wax and oil paint which gave me the tools I needed to get started on my current path.

I work without pre-planning. My art comes from inside me. I love color and curves. They show up over

I work without pre-planning. My art comes from inside me. I love color and curves. They show up over and over in my work. I learned to use collage both to add texture under the paint and interest on top. I have gone back to using fabric as part of my collage.
